31st December – this date is close to my heart.
It was in the year 2000 that a five-star resort on the Jumeirah Beach stretch called and asked me to give them a proposal for New Year’s Eve planning. I visited the place and saw that the hotel did not have a proper ballroom to create that New Year’s Eve atmosphere, so I decided to think outside the box. What I thought just clicked, and from there on, New Year’s Eve events kept growing in terms of management, entertainment, productions, and decor.
A Game-Changing Concept
The concept was simple yet innovative. There was a bar counter which we converted into a high-raised stage, and the entire hotel lobby was lit up with New Year’s Eve decor. This setup had two major advantages:
- Large Crowd Accommodation: We managed to create a stage and space for a large crowd.
- Festive Atmosphere: All guests entering the hotel immediately felt the New Year’s Eve atmosphere, as the festive ambiance greeted them right at the entrance.
This setup was cost-effective, visually stunning, and catered to a larger crowd capacity. After this success, there was no looking back.
Expansion Across the UAE
We continued to conceptualize and handle over 32+ venues across Dubai, Al Ain, Fujairah, Al Aqah, Abu Dhabi, Oman, and the border of Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, covering the entire UAE. The best part was we used to be booked by September, and by October, we had to turn down more inquiries for New Year’s Eve setups.
Managing International Entertainment
Back in those days, bands had to be flown in from Europe. With my background in travel, I could manage their travel, stay, and requirements in Dubai, such as piano and drum kit rentals. This expertise ensured seamless coordination and top-notch entertainment for our events.

Value for money is what I look at. To me, it means you pay for what you get. We only offer what you need and do not add unwanted services or items to increase your budget. We propose entertainment that offers value and is related to your theme and budget. Most importantly, planning ahead and confirming early saves money.

Execution and Challenges
The New Year’s setup would start just after Christmas, from the 26th of December, taking five days to set up in different locations. However, the most challenging part was clearing the venue the next morning, on the 1st of January.

The highlight of my New Year’s was receiving calls from all the hotels just after the countdown, thanking me and my team for handling the events smoothly and successfully. This tradition carried on year after year until 2018.
